Euro 5-grade diesel in JB soon

CYBERJAYA: Owners of diesel-powered cars and trucks can buy Euro 5-grade diesel in Johor within the next three weeks.

According to Malaysian Auto-motive Institute (MAI) chief executive officer Madani Sahari, Euro 5-grade diesel would be sold at a subsidised price of RM2.10 per litre at 15 to 20 BHPetrol stations in Johor.

This is 10 sen higher per litre than Euro 2M-grade diesel.

Madani said the introduction of Euro 5-grade diesel was to help lorry operators comply with Singapore’s new regulation for smoke opacity.

Beginning July 1, Malaysian-registered diesel-powered vehicles in Singapore need to achieve a smoke opacity test result of 40 HSUs (Hartridge smoke unit) or lower.

Madani said the Euro 5-grade diesel sold at BHPetrol stations in Johor was also available to private diesel-powered passenger car owners.

The Association of Malaysian Hauliers president Datuk Che Azizuddin Che Ismail welcomed the introduction of Euro 5-grade diesel, saying that the slightly higher price was not an issue.

“It is high time we use the better quality diesel. It is better for the environment,” he said.
